Online Math Tutor Jeff From Jeff's Math Tutoring

ABOUT JEFF

Math has always been a passion of mine ever since I was a kid. Math has been my favorite subject in school for as long as I can remember. I always helped my classmates with their work and went on to Precalculus my last year of high school at Poway High. I was active at that time playing football and was on the wrestling team.

When I was in college I went onto junior college first and then transferred to SDSU. There I worked at the Math Learning Center where I really discovered my love for tutoring. I was originally an engineering major but because I loved teaching so much I decided to switch my focus to education and received my degree in mathematics. I worked for various tutoring services during that time and got so much experience tutoring various subjects and ages.

I taught high school for about 7 years and loved it. I worked with so many different styles of learners, and built so many great bonds with students. During this time I still did tutoring because I love working with students one on one. You really get to see how much a student learns when it’s individual teaching.

Then in March of 2020 the most unexpected thing in the world happened and all of a sudden I was an online teacher. I can’t tell you how much of a change and impact that had on me. I had to change my whole style up in order to teach on the computer. Then I started tutoring online as well because there was such a demand. From then on I never looked back. I realized online teaching was the way of the future, at least for one on one teaching.

There are so many benefits to online tutoring. No more is there a tutor invading a students personal space, looking over their shoulder, in order to see how the math problem is going. With online tutoring I’m able to see exactly what the student is writing on the board and I catch mistakes and tendencies much quicker than before. I can produce practice problems much quicker using a collection of worksheets I have bought over the years. Technology really is the way of the future and I discovered online tutoring has by far the most effective way of one on one teaching.

Tutoring has become such a great passion of mine that this school year I have decided to stop teaching. Now I get to spend all day working with students one on one. I work with students from 6th grade all the way to calculus. I developed great strategies of explaining all math subjects in a unique way that kids can understand. I always come in with a positive attitude and a smile on my face. I’m one of the luckiest people in the world because I do what I love for a living.
